First Denton Responds to Hurricane Harvey
Our hearts have been broken this past week as we have watched the devastation talking place along the Gulf coast in South Texas. Hurricane Harvey came ashore as a category four hurricane and brought massive destruction from strong winds and flooding rains over an enormous area. Thousands of homes, churches and businesses have been flooded or destroyed. As a church we want to do what we can to help with the current needs and the needs that will most certainly be there for years to come. Many have asked what they can do right now and in the months to come. Here is what we suggest.
You can pray for the hundreds of thousands of people whose lives have been disrupted by the storm. Pray for the first responders and disaster relief personnel who are already in South Texas and others who are on the way. Pray for the churches and pastors in south Texas who will be trying to meet needs while also caring for their own families.
Right now the greatest need is for financial resources. We encourage you to give to any of the large organizations who are providing relief services. Baptist Men of Texas, and Denton Baptist Association Disaster Relief, are two ministries who are already in South Texas offering services. They are in need of financial gifts to purchase food, water and other supplies.
We will also be taking supplies to Houston on September 24. Please bring only the supplies listed below. DONATIONS SHOULD BE DROPPED OFF SUNDAY, SEPT 24.
• Baby Wipes
• Baby Formula
• Clorox Wipes
• Latex Gloves
• School Supplies
