“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me."
– John 17:20-23
Jesus was all about unity. God is One in three persons, completely unified to bring glory to Himself. His prayer, not long before going to the cross, was that we would be unified as He and the Father were unified.
For about a decade I had the great privilege of being the “unofficial Chaplain” of the Ryan High School football team. Coach Joey Florence was and is my best friend, other than Tami of course, and he asked me to do devotionals for the team every game day. That gave me behind the scenes access to the team. For years I would listen as Coach Florence would talk to his team about “Living as One.” For several years that was the theme, that they as a team would live as One. Coach Florence won well over 100 games at Ryan High School, including two state championships, in part because the young men of those teams were unified in their focus, they lived as One!
Pray with me that God would unify us as a church. Unity doesn’t mean uniformity. We might not agree on everything, but we can be unified to build the Kingdom of God here in Denton and around the globe.
Father bring unity to your people called First Denton so that we can build your kingdom all over the world.
