“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!” - Philippians 2:3-8
It is my greatest privilege to lead and serve alongside the Connect Team of First Denton. These dear folks, many times, are the first impression of Jesus that a guest or member sees each Sunday. The kindness expressed in a greeting at our doors, a ride in the golf cart or serving a cup of coffee, I believe have an eternal impact. Paul paints a beautiful picture of the ultimate servant in Philippians 2:3-8 of our Lord Jesus. Jesus was preparing for a painful path to the cross and was still humbly leading people to value others above ourselves.
Please pray with me that God will direct us to opportunities to serve and love our neighbor and the stranger, so that they will get a glimpse of Jesus in us.
Dearest Heavenly Father, I want to paint a picture of Jesus for the world to know with my life. Help me to aggressively seek opportunities in my church, my community, my family, and the world to tell the wondrous story of Jesus and His love. Amen
